Armed & Dangerous – Motion Controls

I added support for the Razer Hydra motion controllers over the weekend. Moving the arms, picking stuff up, aiming, it’s all much more natural this way.

Buggy? Definitely, but as a proof of concept I’m very happy with it. I’ve got a huge list of possible motion-control-powered mechanics that I’ll try to implement sometime later. :)

    • Yeah, motion controls for PC are in that peculiar chicken and egg situation. You need the hardware in order for games to be developed and played, but you need the games to help sell it. Right now we have this hardware, but there aren’t any games available for it.

As far as motion controllers go though, the Razer Hydra wins by a mile! This is what the Wii should’ve been.

  1. Nice! Make sure to post this on the Sixense forums once it’s playable, too. The available version doesn’t have motion control yet, does it? I’d like to give this a try sometime.

    • Thanks!

I posted a thread on the Sixense forums, but you’re correct in that I still need to produce a public build for people to try. The current version with hydra support is *very* buggy, and playtests with other people were a disaster. It needs a little extra love before I send it out. :P

I’ll be sharing the input management part of the code base as well, for other folks wanting to work with the Hydra in Unity. :)

  2. Oh, I forgot to post this additional video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obruxfY2_ko, it features some pseudo rock climbing action. :)
