I’m behind

I decided to make a 2d game, using Construct 2. The tools have all worked correctly, but everything has taken longer than expected. The first two days I did very little graphics wise, and nothing that was particularly game-play influencing. Instead I created the php, mysql back-end to store the maps, square by square in. This is something I had wanted to play with for a while now, and seven day FPS gave me the chance.

Once the back-end was ready, I needed a way to load it into the game (using Construct ) because I had a plan from the beginning, I caught an issue early on. Just because your web-site is normally fast, doesn’t mean it always is. The game isn’t going to be really fast paced, so its possible that the issue would never be noticed, but rather than chance it I created a sort of pre-loader for the game. What it does is, load your location first while at the same time it is also loading the four other squares around you. When all five possible squares are loaded it will let you play. from there it is just a  matter of keeping the information loaded, while you play.

Today is the first day I’ve spent on any graphics, I think there is potential with the game, but I’m not sure if I will be able to reach it in the time left.

The game should be playable on mobile devices, such as a phone or tablet. But I haven’t tested it yet. I plan to use the remaining time on gameplay, I have several ideas, I just hope to avoid repetitiveness.

Intro

Hello, I have decided to participate in seven day first person shooter. My initial though was to created a 3D arena based FPS. But I have since came up with a new idea. A 2D first person puzzle game, with a little bit of player interaction, and some guns to make it a FPS.

I’ll be using the following programs:

Construct 2 – Engine/toolkit/game maker

Bfxr – Sound effects

Autotracker-bu – Music

Photoshop CS5 – graphics

I will also be using some php and mysql to create and store the levels, as well as handle the player interactions. Construct 2 will be exported to html5 and I will be making it so that you can play on a tablet or phone that supports html5.

I don’t want to start until Saturday, so I don’t have anything to show, but I have it all worked out in my head, as to how I am going to design and load the levels. I think there will be four levels, but each level will have quite a few puzzles. There will also be multiple paths to reach the end, some harder, and some easy. You can find my other games on my website, as well as follow me on my blog or on twitter.
