BubbleGUNN is done

My (partly joke entry) 2D retro pixel art FPS made in 7days is done!  I might add some small tweaks and such tomorrow, but the game is playable.  Shoot the falling blocks before they crush your floor!  Shoot fruit for extra points, and have fun.

Shooting is done with either the mouse-button or the X key – if you, like me, don’t use a mouse on your notebook it will make the game a lot more friendly to play using a key to shoot.

Play it here

Triffids!

OK… this’ll be my very first game jam, so wish me luck. :-p

I’m going old skool with my entry, using a custom 3D wireframe sphere renderer coupled with an L-system to create a [very] simple C++/SDL game that can be compiled to JavaScript using Emscripten.

I’ve created a GitHub repo cos’ the code will be open source (*crowd cheers*): http://github.com/andrewjbaker/7dfps

I also intend to post Emscripten-compiled work-in-progress demos for y’all to give me feedback and request features whilst it’s under development. They’ll be hosted here: http://7dfps.fleetingfantasy.com/

I will, of course, be blogging on this ‘ere site too.

Initial thoughts on game theme are defending an outpost from marauding Triffids and/or mutant vegetation using water pistols filled with saltwater. Beyond that, I have nothing, LOL.

As I’ll be working full-time next week and only part-time on my entry, I’ll likely get some of the housekeeping stuff out of the way before the challenge begins.

Ciao.

Intro

Hello, I have decided to participate in seven day first person shooter. My initial though was to created a 3D arena based FPS. But I have since came up with a new idea. A 2D first person puzzle game, with a little bit of player interaction, and some guns to make it a FPS.

I’ll be using the following programs:

Construct 2 – Engine/toolkit/game maker

Bfxr – Sound effects

Autotracker-bu – Music

Photoshop CS5 – graphics

I will also be using some php and mysql to create and store the levels, as well as handle the player interactions. Construct 2 will be exported to html5 and I will be making it so that you can play on a tablet or phone that supports html5.

I don’t want to start until Saturday, so I don’t have anything to show, but I have it all worked out in my head, as to how I am going to design and load the levels. I think there will be four levels, but each level will have quite a few puzzles. There will also be multiple paths to reach the end, some harder, and some easy. You can find my other games on my website, as well as follow me on my blog or on twitter.

Team Andrea reporting for duty!

Hi,

I’m @psardin from Andrea, and this is a first for me and my team: we usually work on website, web applications and database.

For this challenge, we want to make a game in HTML5 in which you play a very ambitious quark.

As we have a lot of work, we won’t be able to start working on this side project before tuesday, but we’ll be checking on your work every chance we get!

See you around,

Paul

Blazing Games getting ready

Hello, I am Billy D. Spelchan and I run a small gaming site called BlazingGames.com where I post my creations. Right now it is a hobby though I am attempting to try to turn it into something that will pay me. Still, as I normally create games in a short period of time (probably one of my problems) I couldn’t resist entering this challenge.

For me, this challenge is about creating a game from scratch in a week. As I am in the process of transitioning my site from Flash (and some older Java games) to HTML 5, I figured that I would target HTML5 for this challenge. As I am a single person developing this game and will be developing the engine from scratch as well as the game I am thinking of going really old-school FPS and creating a ray-casting engine. For the most compatibility, this will be using the canvas not WebGL (though it there is another contest next year I may go the WebGL with a BSP based engine for that challenge) so the renderer will be entirely in software.

For the theme of the game, I am going back to my early days of game development and am going to revisit my Coffee Quest universe so the game I hope to have developed by the 15th will be given the highly original title of “Coffee Quest FPS”. If progress is swift enough, I am hoping to have some RPG aspects in the game. I would also like 8 levels in the game, though will probably only have a single level finished by the 15th.

While I suspect that the other games in this challenge will be using pre-existing engines, have real artists, and actually will have teams, I will try to create the best game that a single person can do using JavaScript in a week. I hope that even if my game isn’t the glitziest game released, it will still be very enjoyable.
