NoirFPS: Day One (point five)

Moderate progress on my side of the screen – I spent the day putting together some general assets (rigged hands, weapons) and a generic enemy body mesh (you can see him in the distance there).

I’m going to be using interchangeable heads on enemy bodies, which will indicate the enemy’s abilities and personality.

I’ve got a reasonable handle on the game design – it will be very condensed. I’m aiming to make the game playable in less-than-ten minute bursts (on a mobile handset).

Day One!

Down to the wire.

Hey hey,

My name is Joshua – I’m one-half of Unity development team Doppler Interactive, and I’ll be trying my darnedest to complete a FPS (a genre I’ve never attempted before) on my own.

I’ll be using Unity with the plugin Tidy TileMapper, and creating an old-styled FPS in the gameplay style of Wolfenstein 3D – for mobile (iOS). I’ll be using procedural levels, maybe something maze-y.

I’m going to be trying to focus on getting something nicely polished but simple elements out – a solid sound design, film-noir styled visuals, and a handful of entertaining weapons.

That’s the theory, anyway!

Add me on Twitter if you’re keen to talk shop. @DopplerInteract

Good luck everybody!

Intro

Hello, I have decided to participate in seven day first person shooter. My initial though was to created a 3D arena based FPS. But I have since came up with a new idea. A 2D first person puzzle game, with a little bit of player interaction, and some guns to make it a FPS.

I’ll be using the following programs:

Construct 2 – Engine/toolkit/game maker

Bfxr – Sound effects

Autotracker-bu – Music

Photoshop CS5 – graphics

I will also be using some php and mysql to create and store the levels, as well as handle the player interactions. Construct 2 will be exported to html5 and I will be making it so that you can play on a tablet or phone that supports html5.

I don’t want to start until Saturday, so I don’t have anything to show, but I have it all worked out in my head, as to how I am going to design and load the levels. I think there will be four levels, but each level will have quite a few puzzles. There will also be multiple paths to reach the end, some harder, and some easy. You can find my other games on my website, as well as follow me on my blog or on twitter.

Ready to ROCK AND ROLL!

McFunkypants, checking in. I’m an indie gamedev, author of gamedev books and dozens of games and songs.

Got my Stage3D engines humming nicely. FlashDevelop fired up and configured to perfection. 3dsMax waiting in the shadows, purring softly. Android phone hooked up via USB cable, ready to run my app.

That’s right, I’m hoping to create a one-button MOBILE first-person-shooter. I may not succeed, but the journey is sure to be exciting. Good luck and have fun, everybody!
